Chateau Angelus Saint Emilion 2005
|
Deep ruby. Incredible brooding nose combines blackberry, black cherry, minerals, violet and a liqueur of licorice. A lush, sexy wine of compelling sweetness, solidity and depth, with a pronounced cabernet franc minerality punching up the explosive fruit. The inexorable, endless finish features huge but thoroughly ripe tannins and terrific energy. As primary as this is, there's nothing hard about it. This is likely to age gracefully for two or three decades. The best vintage I've ever tasted from this property, and it's clearly one of the stars of this great vintage. Bouard notes that the IPT today is 96. The alcohol is 14.7% and the pH 3.7, compared to 14.2% and 3.95 for the 1990 vintage.

Very, very pretty aromas already of violets, mineral and blackberry. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a delicate, complex finish. Very subtle. Refined. Will it be better than 2000? Score range: 92-94
