Whereas its younger and rather rugged sibling is overly driven by ripeness, this noteworthy wine shows lots of very deep fruit and has the supple feel and fine balance we look for in first-rate Merlot. Long on black cherries and fit with a full dose of lovely oak spice, it is both ripe and very well-balanced with a careful backbone of integral tannins to guarantee another three to five years of certain growth.
