Brewer Clifton Santa Rita Hills Cargasacchi 2005
|
Aromas of savory meat stock, white cocoa and nutmeg followed by flavors of black raspberry and mild mole. Lush and fruity on the palate with a drying finish.

Fresh mushrooms, forest floor, pomegranate, sweet cherry, and pepper characteristics are found in the deep ruby-hued, medium to full-bodied 2005 Pinot Noir Cargasacchi. Its earthy, peppery, black fruited character is reminiscent of a premier cru from Nuits St.-Georges. Give it 1-3 years of cellaring and enjoy it over the following 10-15.

This is among my favorites of the ’05 B-C Pinots. The stems make the wine earthier and more tannic than most other SRH Pinot Noirs, in a way, more old-fashioned. The wine needs time, but the massive heart of cola, black cherry, plum and coffee flavors, not to mention the brisk acidity, suggests greater drinkability by 2008. This is a classy, exotic and complex young wine.
