Deep red. Rich and smoky on the nose, with powerful aromas of cherry and chocolate, along with a hint of espresso. Big, rich and round, with a ripe cherry flavor. Quite dense, and displaying more power today than the Louise. Finishes solid but with a velvety, smooth texture.

Earthy at first, with orange peel-scented black cherry, prune and leather flavors emerging before it finishes with firm tannins, the flavors lingering well. Needs time to settle in. Best from 2008 through 2012. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 2,150 cases made.

This firmly structured opus is as concerned with spice and structure as much as it is with any outgoing fruit, and its somewhat tighter style makes comparisons with the wines of the Cotes d'Or unavoidable. Its restrained impressions of ripe cherries are framed with touches of cream, vanilla and smoke, and it runs to a bit of astringency at the finish. It will clearly take a few years of time in the cellar, and we expect that it will keep for a good many more.
