Burgundy Collection

Burgundy Collection Burgundy, that tiny sliver of land in the center of France, produces what many consider to be the ultimate wine. Indeed, some of the world’s greatest, most complex and most refined red wines are produced from the Pinot Noir and white wines from the Chardonnay grape from this viticultural region. Ask many a wine lover “what is your most memorable wine?” and chances are it will be a grand cru Burgundy. Great Burgundy is undeniably, unforgettable. Unfortunately , it is also rare. The entire vineyard area of Burgundy, from Chablis to Beaujolais, covers less than half of the area of New York city! But by all means do not let this stop you from experiencing the pleasure of fine Burgundy wine. Our list is full of the most legendary as well as the handful of the yet not so famous names in Burgundy. Our Burgundy buyer, Joe Kluchinsky, travels to Burgundy at least once a year expressly to eek out the very best to be offered for your enjoyment. Early indications are that there are some legendary 2003 red Burgundies produced – unique and singular wines that will have no peers. It will not, however, be as uniformly good a vintage as 2002. With the vintage being a relatively small crop, many producers were forced to increase their prices. This fact, coupled with the strong Euro against the dollar has created an atmosphere conducive to higher pricing. Please check our website frequently as purchases will be posted as soon as new orders are confirmed by our suppliers. A better strategy for buying Burgundy may be going back instead of going forward. Older wines, purchased with a stronger dollar, will be priced more attractively than their younger counterparts. There are still many high quality wines available from these older vintages. Look carefully and I’m sure you’ll find something to quench your thirst for great Burgundy.

Meursault-Genevrieres Premier Cru   Chardonnay
WA91
The 2005 Meursault Genevrieres explodes from the glass with apricots, plums, hazelnuts, and peaches. Medium-bodied, broad, and rich, this wine offers thick layers of buttered toast, poached pear, and grilled oak flavors. A lush, almost decadent offering. Drink it over the next 6 years.

2005 $89.99

Vosne Romanee 1er Cru
Les Chaumes Domain Jean Tardy Pinot Noir
Very pure and elegant, evoking black currant and bilberry notes, with hints of spice and mineral, all balanced and graceful. This shows its solid structure on the finish. Best from 2010 through 2020. 400 cases made. –BS

2006 $101.99

Domaine Bertagna
Vougeot Clos de la Perriere Pinot Noir
ST90
A bit oaky, but with mocha, spices and chocolate, even violets. Medium-bodied, and a bit rough for now, but with plenty of fresh raspberries and cherries. Best from 2006 through 2012. 750 cases made. –PM

2005 $119.31
31 Domaine Bonneau du Martray
Domaine Bonneau du Martray
Grand Cru Corton Charlemagne Chardonnay
WS94
A whiff of chalk dust, along with a vanilla note, introduces this intense white. Flavors of peach, grapefruit and oak spice persist through the finish, with a mineral streak. Powerful and balanced, with a lingering aftertaste. Best from 2011 through 2024. 450 cases imported. –BS

2007 $122.99
32 Domaine Michel Gros
Domaine Michel Gros
Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Aux Brulees Pinot Noir
WS91
A graphite accent introduces this pure cherry- and rose-flavored red. There''''s some serious yet ripe tannins underneath, and despite its balance, this needs time to come together. Best from 2011 through 2020. 320 cases made. –BS

2006 $128.00

  Grands Echezeaux
ST89
Moderately saturated medium red. Closed, reduced nose hints at redcurrant, plum and smoke. Rather austere in the mouth, with an edge of acidity and apparent oak currently overshadowing the wine's fruit, earth and spice elements. Very firm wine but today it's a bit dry and edgy, even austere. This is very difficult to taste and needs time.

2004 $139.99

Domaine Leflaive Puligny
  Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres
ST89
Very pure, perfumed aromas of peach and white flowers. Juicy and taut, with sharply delineated flavors of peach, lemon, flowers and minerals. Lovely harmonious acidity extends the wine's finish. The first of these wines to show 'the real final balance' of 2004, notes Morey.

2004 $171.99

Domaine Leflaive Puligny
  Puligny Montrachet Les Pucelles
ST91
Nose hints at spicy oak and flint. Extremely closed and inexpressive today; in a dry style but quite pure and delicate, with brisk acidity. Best today on the subtle, long finish. A very stylish wine but still stunned by the recent bottling.

2001 $181.99
36 Maison Louis Jadot
Maison Louis Jadot
  Chambertin Clos de Beze
WS94
Bright, deep red. Superripe yet vibrant and perfumed aromas of black raspberry, rose petal and minerals. Very ripe and highly concentrated; creamy yet firm, thanks to powerful underlying structure. A wine of great energy, density and soil character, and an infant today. Finishes with outstanding palate-staining persistence and a slightly saline quality. This should evolve spectacularly for at least 15 to 20 years. A great wine in the making.

2003 $246.99
