Rosso Sangiovese

"Good full red with a palish rim. Pure, superripe aromas of red cherry, violet, iodine and nutmeg. Superrich, highly concentrated and seamless, with densely packed flavors of raspberry, dark plum and marzipan. Finishes creamy-rich and explosively long, with a pretty violet note. This was so good I really had trouble letting the glass go. I''d wait a good five years on this one, then enjoy it for another two decades. Proof positive that sangiovese is one of the world''s great grape varieties."

Bright medium ruby. Currant, flint and graphite on the nose. Ripe but quite tight in the mouth, with currant, blueberry, tobacco and herbal flavors that quickly went into a shell. This, too, shows a slight green aspect but there's also good sweetness here.

Green-gold. Potent aromas of pear and apple liqueur plus an exotic note of fresh mushroom on the ripe, smoky nose. Deep, rich and concentrated, with a tangy note of white pepper adding interest and lift to the buttery orchard fruit flavors. The full, smoky finish shows a clinging, sappy quality and striking length.

This plush, dense red shows coffee and spicy oak, with berry and wild plum fruit and accents of licorice and black pepper. The tannins are firm but well-integrated, and this finishes warm and spicy. Modern and alluring. Drink now through 2012. 600 cases made. –TM

Wow. This wine shows the really smoky notes we find so attractive in the higher end wines of Domaine LeFlaive. And then there''s a minerally character which is simply so different from California Chardonnay...one guest described this as showing the sort of flavors you might encounter from biting into an oyster shell. There''s nice weight to the wine...it''s substantial, but not heavy or ponderous. Delicious now, we suspect this wine will continue to grow over the next several years.
